Leprosy is known for deformities. Late case detection may also add to this problem. For the correction of different deformities, reconstructive surgery is quite helpful and with the help of Reconstructive Surgery (RCS), functional correction of disabilities can be achieved.

Gujarat is a model state in the country for organizing RCS camps. So far 14-RCS Camps have been organized between 1999 and 2007 in which 6206 surgeries have been performed. During April-March (08) 191 RCS Operation have been performed.Patients having foot ulcer deformity are provided Micro-cellular Rubber Footwear under NLEP. During 1995-96 to March -2008, total 41565 MCR footwears were provided to the patients.

After the completion of treatment, needy patients are provided Economic Rehabilitation with the help of Non Government Organizations. Between the years 1996 to March, a total of 7312 leprosy patients have been economically rehabilitated.

Gujarat state has launched Disability Care Programme in phased manner, to prevent development of disabilities in leprosy patients as well as to provide quality disability care to old patients with disabilities so that their disabilities do not worsen.

For this ambitious programme, specialized training is provided to taluka and district leprosy supervisor and district nucleus medical officers.
