World :
  • Total of nearly 180 million people suffer visual impairments.
  • 135 million have low vision.
  • 45 million people are blind.
  • Every 5 seconds one person in our world goes blind.
  • A child goes blind every minute.
  • 7 million people become blind each year in the world.
India :
  • 18.7 million people are blind.
  • 14.7 Million blind are in the rural areas.
  • 9.5 Million have cataract related blindness.
  • 3 million are blind due to refractive error.
  • 3.8 million people become blind due to cataract every year.
Gujarat
  • 4.98 lacs persons are blind.
  • 2.50 lacs are cataract blind.
  • 0.80 lacs cataract cases are added every year
