Condom Promotion:

Condom promotion has been an important program component of the National Family Welfare Programme implemented through the Department of Family Welfare, Government of India and Family Welfare Department in Gujarat. Under the NACP II program, condoms are distributed free to the TI population with the help of NGOs, VCTCs, Primary and Community Health Centers etc. There also exists a channel for propagating social marketing of condoms and commercial brands of condoms.

Gujarat State AIDS Control Society is using a three-pronged strategy for condom promotion. The three approaches are: Free Supply, Social Marketing & Commercial Distribution. Condoms are freely distributed to High Risk Group population with the help of NGOs, VCTCs, STDs, Primary & Community Health Care Centres etc.

For the effective control of STDs and HIV/AIDS, condom promotion is an important strategy to combat the epidemic. The objective of the condom program is to ensure easy access to good quality, affordable & acceptable condoms to promote safe sex.
