Survey Work on Food Comodities
Survey work on Pesticide residue in Milk & Milk products, Heavy metal contents, Aflatoxine content in Ground Nuts and Maize seeds, Detection and quantification of Magnesium Carbonate in Pan Masala and Gutkha analysis and public opinion of Synthetic Milk, analysis of various food additives like methaqulone in toffees, Monosodium Glutamate in meat products, alcohol in candies are carried out in Food Division of this Laboratory. Analysis of different Food product is done with CCFS for formulating standards, consent is given to CFTRI to participate in collaborative study in analysis of various foodstuffs comprising of CFTRI.
PROJECT WORK
Conducted survey work on Pesticides Residue in Spices sponsored by Spices board of India.
A Survey work on synthetic colours in different Food Largely consumed by the children which was sponsored by WHO is completed and about 370 samples are examined out of which 40 % found adulterated.Report is sent to the Central Govt.Moreover,survey on quality of edible oils is undertaken for which samples were collected by laboratory staff from remote areas of the state.
Public awareness programmes such as exhibition inside and outside the laboratory regarding Food Adulteration, Lectures on adulteration & food laws, training programme for food inspectors and analysts from other labs, technical guidance to students of home science etc.
“ Sample-Kit “ for testing adulteration of food commodities in domestic use by common people is prepared and sent to State Govt. for fixing its price & quantity.
Vocational training programs is being conducted since last two years for the students of Home Science, Vallabh Vidyanagar.
The laboratory at Vadodara is one of the three recognised laboratories in India for conducting Public Analyst’s qualifying examination for about 20 candidates since 1986.
Statement – “A” reveals the output of samples analysed for different categories.
Enclosed Annexure – I & II reveal the staff sanctioned and list of instruments at various divisions respectively.
