Goal

To have contributed to the National goal of improving the quality of life, achieving population stabilization and Improving Human Development Index of the State.

The Total Fertility Rate (as of 1998) for women aged 15-49 years in Gujarat is 3.2 children per woman. According to NFHS, the unmet demand for FP is 13.1% and 14% married women are sterilized. Couple Protection Rate is 54.2% (2001). Knowledge of family planning is nearly universal in Gujarat. Currently married women are most familiar with female sterilization (96%) followed by male sterilization, IUD, pill and condom.

 
Highlights
The mid term objective is to reduce the TFR from its current level of 3.2 to replacement level of 2.1 by the year 2007.
Project document prepared and submitted to the Govt of India and UNFPA for the approval in October 1998.
Govt of India approved the project in June 4, 1999.
The project commissioned in October 1999. Country Program - (CP 5)
CP 5 was extended from January 2003-June 2003. This was Country Program 6 (CP 6 phase I).
CP- 6 Phase II is from July 2003-December 2007.
Implementing Agency is Government of Gujarat.
5 districts of Gujarat State i.e. Kachchh, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Surendranagar, Dahod.
Selection Criteria: TFR, Mean Age at Marriage, Sex Ratio, Female Literacy, IMR
