(1)
Gujarat Board of Ayurvedic and Unani systems of Medicine :-
This Board has been formed according to the provision of “
The Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act 1963.” The Board
consists of 11 members including the President. Out of
these members, 5 members are elected from Part –I, and 2
members are elected from Part- II by Registered Medical
Practitioners and the remaining 4 are nominated by the
Government .This Board is formed for a duration of five
years. It gets 100% grant from the Government. The powers,
duties and functions of this Board are as under :-
(a)
To Maintain the register and the list and to provide the
registration and enlistment to the practitioners,
(b)
To hear and decide appeals for any decision of the
Registrar,
(c)
To prescribe a code of ethics for regulating the
professional conduct of the registered and enlisted
practitioners,
(d)
To reprimand a registered or enlisted practitioner, to
suspend or remove him from the register or the list as the
case may be, or to take such other disciplinary action
against him as may be the opinion of the Board,
(e)
To exercise such other powers and perform such other duties
and function, as are either laid down in the Act or may be
prescribed.

Registered Medical Practitioners are registered in Part –I
and 7797 are registered in Part –II up to 31st
March 2001.
(II)
The Council of Homoeopathic system of medicine :-
The Council consists of 11 members, out of which 7 are
elected by the registered Homoeopath practitioners and the
remaining 4 are nominated by the Government. This Council
has a tenure of 5 years. It gets 100% grant from the
Government. According to section 15 of the Homoeopathic Act
1963, following are the powers, duties and functions of the
Council.
(a)
To maintain the register and the list and to provide for the
registration of practitioners or the entry of their names in
the list,
(b)
To hear and decide appeals for any decision of the
Register,
(c)
To reprimand a register or an enlisted practitioner or to
suspend or remove him from the register or the list, as
the case may be, or to take such other disciplinary action
against him as the opinion of the Council may be,
(d)
To hold examinations and to take all necessary arrangements
for such examinations,
(e)
To prescribe the courses of the training and study, the
curriculum and the syllabus leading to the examinations held
by the Council and to charge fees for such examinations,
(f)
To grant degrees, diplomas and marks of honour,
(g)
To award stipends, scholarships, medals, prizes and other
rewards,
(h)
To recognize institutions for the purpose of giving
instruction for the course leading to the examinations held
by the Council or to cancel such recognition,
(i)
To recommend the inclusion of any degree, diploma,
certificate or award in the First Schedule or to recommend
the removal of any degree, diploma, certificate or award
from the First Schedule,
(j)
To prepare, publish and prescribe text books and to publish
statements of prescribed courses of the study,
(k)
To provide the maintenance of an adequate standard of
proficiency for the practice of the Homoeopathic system of
medicines,
(l)
To found and maintain libraries,
(m)
To recommend and promote schemes for post graduate training
and research in Homoeopathy,
(n)
To provide for the inspection of recognized institutions and
to require from such institutions such information as the
Council may deem necessary,
(o)
To provide for the inspection of any other institutions
giving instructions for any of the qualifications included
in the First Schedule,
(p)
To appoint boards of studies and committees consisting of
persons who may or may not be the members of the Council and
to lay down the constitution, the duties and the functions
of such boards and committees,
(q)
To found Homoeopahic educational institutions or hospital or
dispensaries,
(r)
To appoint the officers and servants of the Council, other
than the Registrar, and the inspectors, moderators,
examiners or visitors,
(s)
To exercise such other powers and perform such other duties
and functions as are laid down in this Act and as may be
prescribed .
At present, 5123 qualified practitioners are registered in
Part – I, while in Part –II , 42 unqualified
practitioners are registered .
(III) Naturopathy
Board :-
This Board has been constituted by a Govt. Resolution
wherein the Health Minister is the Chairman of the Board.
The members of this Board are nominated through Govt. on the
basis of their qualifications, knowledge and contribution to
the field of Naturopathy. Formulation of this Board is aimed
at the popularity and the propagation of this system of
treatment and to bring forth to the Govt. the potentialities
for the possible establishment of educational institutions
for Naturopathy.
(IV) Gujarat Ayured Vikas
Mandal :-
Gujarat Ayurved Vikas Mandal is sponsored by the State
Government since 1965. The Mandal is a body registered under
Public Trust Act and also under Societies Registration Act,
1860.
The main object of the Mandal is to plan the activities for
upliftment and development of Ayurved. Some of the aims and
objects of the Mandal narrated in the Constitution are as
under : -
1.
To promote and encourage the knowledge and practice of
Ayurved.
2.
To undertake and develop teaching of Ayurveda by taking
over existing institutions and new educational institutions
of Ayurveda.
3.
To establish, manage and render financial assistance to
Pharmacies, Herbariums, Libraries, Museums, and similar
institutions for the study and research in Ayurveda.
4.
To prepare, print and publish books, periodicals and other
literature in furtherance of the objects of the Mandal and
to render financial assistant to the periodicals of Ayurveda.
5.
To award prizes, and grants scholarships in furtherance of
the object of the Mandal.
6.
To start and maintain Ayurvedic dispensaries, hospitals and
stores for sale of Ayurvedic medicines as well as row
materials necessary for preparing Ayurvedic medicines.
7.
To establish, maintain and render financial help to the
institutions for the development and uplift of Ayurved.
8.
To undertake by itself or in co-operation with others
,activities necessary for the fulfilment of the objects of
the Vikas Mandal.
9.
To take over the state Ayurvedic pharmacy for the Ayurvedic
medicinal requirement of the state , E.S.I. and Panchayat
dispensaries and to put pharmacy on sound production
capacity.
Having a tenure of 5 years, this Mandal of 11 Members is
formed through Govt. Notification. Both the members and the
mechanism of the Mandal are worthy encominum. The
members usually possess a huge prestige and sense of service
for the cause of Ayurved. The Mandal is always busy with the
production of genuine and classical herbal medicines. These
medicines are produced at Mandal’s pharmacy at Junagadh and
at Ahmedabad. Moreover, the Mandal has its own Medical
stores and dispensaries. As mentioned earlier, the
Government has decided to purchase 70 % of total
consumption of medicine at Govt. Ayurved hospitals and
dispensaries.

(V) State Ayurved Nursing Faculty : -
A Faculty is constituted by the Resolution of Panchayats
and Health Department in 1967 for conducting the
examinations of the Ayurved Nursing students. Director ,
Indian Systems of Medicine & Homoeopathy is the President
of the Faculty and an Administrative officer Cl-1 of
Directorate acts as the Secretary of this faculty by virtue
of post. The tenure of this Faculty is 3 years.

) Co-Operative society of Dangees Medicinal Plant growers
:-
A
National Seminar on Medicinal Plants & Traditional Medical
Knowledge and Work shop on Management of Incurable Diseases
like AIDS was held on February 12-13, 1999 at Saputara (
Dangs ). It was recommended that concrete steps should be
taken to create a co-operative infrastructure to encourage
the traditional knowledge of the local tribals and
availability of genuine Jadibutties ( herbs) from the
forest of Dangs. The Forest Department, Co-operative
Department and Health Department along with the Collector,
District Dangs, started their efforts to frame the
Co-operative societies for the same. The sanction in
principle had been given by the Govt. to register such
Societies.
