Education In Homoeopathy

Dr. Christian Fredrick Samuel Hahnemann, a prodigy, was born at Meissen of Germany on the 10th day of April 1755. He lived in the days when general science was in infancy and medical science was almost  non existent.  The time was ripe for one who would discover the most rational principle of drug employment. The unprejudiced mind of Dr. Hahnemann stumbled upon the Law of Similia in 1870 and without the loss of a single drop of blood, without pricking a needle and without causing pain to anybody and keeping away from all bitterness, he constituted the curative system of medicine. i.e. Homoeopathy.

The clinical evidences accumulated since the year of discovery has proved the efficiency of Hahnemann Homoeopathy beyond the shadow of any doubt. Dr. Hahnemann, a constructive genius who never lived in vain, breathed his last on 2nd day of July 1843 in Paris, France..

Homoeopathy has been the protector of the health of the people throughout the universe and is nothing but a combination of the mind, body and spirit and has a very vast field of  application .

In India, at present, 145 graduate and 15 post graduate Homoeopathic  colleges are in existence. Diploma course has been scrapped by the Central Council of Homoeopathy, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Department of Indian Systems of Medicine & Homoeopathy. Govt. of India has framed a minimum standard of education called Regulation 1980 under the Central Council Act, 1973 and has formulated minimum teaching staff guidelines for graduate course of

51/2 years as: Professor-10, Assistant professor/Reader – 14, Lecturer –15 and Demonstrator –23, a total of 62 staff. The Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi appoints a team of inspectors/visitors to inspect all these colleges periodically to maintain and assess the standard of these colleges which are imparting   education and clinical training.

There are 12 Homoeopathy Medical colleges in the state providing education in Homoeopathy, out   of which 4 colleges are recognised as Grant-in-aid institutions and the sanctioned staff is covered under Direct Payment scheme since 1986. The remaining   8 colleges are completely private and are run by their own resources . All the colleges run Degree course in Homoeopathy (B.H.M.S.) of a duration of 51/2 years  including 1year compulsory internship.  The minimum qualification for admission to these colleges is Std. 12 (science) with English as a subject. Admission to these colleges is given through a Centralised Admission Committee of Directorate, I.S.M.& H. on   merit basis. The Govt. norms for reservation of the seats for different categories are strictly observed. 50 % seats of grant-in-aid colleges   are treated   as   free seats and 50% are kept as higher payment seats. In private colleges, 50 % are free seats and  the remaining 50 %  are  of higher  payment. Quota of   maximum 15 % for N.R.I. is to be filled in from higher payment seats.
